Moraine Lake Hiking Elopement
Looking back on this incredible adventure it’s easy to see why summer is an amazing time of year to elope. For Judith and Stewart, their celebrations looked a little different to the original plan of returning home to Scotland to celebrate their day with their families, though they wanted to mark this day in a unique way in the Canadian Rockies.
Hiking Elopement in Banff and Lake Louise
Judith and Stewart love the Rockies and having made the move from Scotland to Canada, really value their time outdoors along with their furry friend, Coire, a happy-go-lucky Border Collie. Being drawn to the idea of getting outside for the day, not worrying about crazy early or late starts or trekking for miles to mark the occasion, the ideas started to flow. One thing was for sure, keeping Coire in the picture was key and as you’ll see from the pics below, he made sure to steal the show along the way.

As the planning progressed, it was obvious that Judith and Stewart had spent some time hiking here and there in the Rockies so the idea of somewhere new was starting to sound very appealing. They settled on Moraine Lake for the stunning backdrop to their day as it was somewhere that they had always wanted to visit, and what a way to mark their first visit to this iconic destination.
Adventure Elopement in Larch Valley & Minnestimma Lake
We met with Judith, Stewart and Coire early afternoon at Moraine Lake in the car park, hiking boots on, ready to go. With a very excited Coire eager to lead the way, we geared up and set off for the mellow stroll along the lakeshore of Moraine Lake in glorious weather. We planned to spend the afternoon hiking through Larch Valley, enjoying the views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks before descending back to the lakeshore to watch the light of day fade.
For those that haven’t visited before, it really is a special place. Despite the height of Summer drawing the crowds, it’s very easy to find some peace and quiet as soon as you leave the lakeshore and start to venture a few kilometres from the easily accessed hotspots. This day was no exception and as we ascended and left the treeline there was no one in sight.
Without a care in the world, we enjoyed some time at the shores of Lake Minnestimma having lunch, sharing stories of making the move to Canada and allowing some quiet time to enjoy the humbling views around.
Judith and Stewart looked incredible together, bringing some traditional Scottish attire to the Canadian Rockies to do things their own way.
