Surprise Heli-Engagement with Rockies Heli at Lake of The Falls
When S reached out to us about his plans to propose to M on their trip to Banff, we were excited to hear all about it. S wanted to arrange for a heli landing, high up in the mountains of the Canadian Rockies for their special moment, but being from Montreal, he needed some local knowledge to help bring the plan together. We chatted with S and based on what he was looking for in the landscape for their photos, we made our recommendations and moved forward with securing our date.

With the plans in place, we had our back story covered and arrived at the heli base in good time to go over the final details with Rockies Heli. We kept ourselves quietly in the waiting room when M & S arrived and went through their pre-flight check in. There had been some threatening weather through the week but we had picked our timing carefully to give us the best chance for their alpine landing. As we got our brief from the pilot and loaded into the heli we couldn’t help but wonder if M had any suspicions but thanks to some careful planning she had no idea! As soon as we landed we lucked out with the company of a small herd of mountain goats which gave us a natural moment to get the camera gear out without attracting any attention.
Surprise Proposal Overlooking a Lake in the Canadian Rockies
With the help of Tim, our Rockies Heli guide, we managed to slip away into the background as he played tour guide for M & S. He showed them around the plateau we had landed on and guided them into our pre-planned position before suggesting they spend some time soaking up the views together. As Tim slipped out of frame, we were still overly interested in our mountain goat friends whilst keeping an eye on what M & S were up to. We could feel the moment approaching and moved into position to capture the magic as it unfolded.

It was so lovely to witness this intimate proposal and even more fun to photograph it. Now that we didn’t have to keep things a secret anymore we congratulated them and enjoyed filling in M on all the fun we had planning things with S. We spent the afternoon taking some more photos with M & S, ensuring to capture the grandeur of the scenery in the Canadian Rockies. It was a picture perfect way to get engaged and we’re stoked to share some of the highlights with you.
