If you’re planning a summer adventure for your celebration then look no further than this jawdropper. This trip came together quite quickly and is definitely something we’d consider a more “last minute” arrangement. With many uncertainties this past summer, new opportunities were becoming available to adventurous couples, on the ground in Canada. These two were no exception and so with a passion for camping and backcountry cabins, born was the idea of this multi-day trip to celebrate their engagement.

With some swift pre-planning, the four of us took the short scenic drive from hometowns of Banff and Canmore to the Mt. Shark Helipad in anticipation of our morning flight. Our destination, a well known haven named Mt. Assiniboine which lies on the border between Banff National Park and Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park. Excitement was high and Sal & Ben were raring to go with their mutli-day packs bursting for 4 days and 3 nights to explore the parks.

Once on the ground, it was time to grab the packs and enjoy the short hike to our hut for the trip. We’re all experienced campers, so to have a roof over our heads for a few nights and fore-go the extra weight in the packs for tents was a welcome change. We made ourselves at home, kicked back and were ready for some backcountry bliss.

Over the next few days we hung out, hiked around the park, taking in the sights at many of the lakes - Magog, Og, Gog and Cerulean. The weather was incredible for the duration of the trip and we enjoyed 4 complete days of blue skies and unobstructed views of the towering Mt. Assiniboine. Not seeing a single cloud for four days was unusual for this area to say the least.

At Ben & Sal’s request, the focus of the trip was to spend some quality time in the backcountry surrounded by nothing but nature. A big part of this was keeping the “camera time” to a minimum. Not wanting to make a big production of things was key to adding to their experience, not to mention bird watching and plentiful dips in the frigid lakes.

When “camera time” did come, these two were at home in the mountains. Complemented by the landscape, they made our job easy to capture some stunning images of them.

Having visited the area before several times, our moments of joy came from seeing the looks on their faces throughout the trip at the amazing scenery you can explore at Mt. Assiniboine. The icing on the cake was keeping company for the amazing hike back home via Wonder Pass.
