Kananaskis Post-Wedding Hiking Adventure Session

Having celebrated their wedding in our home town of Canmore, these two wanted to take the time to do something a little extra special for themselves. Avid explorers, they love everything outdoors and in particular they have been spending time on the waterways of the Canadian Rockies in their trusty packrafts. As we were in the planning stages together, the key was to find a relatively quiet hike in the Fall season which is not an easy task for those that know how crazy the Larch season can be in the Rockies. That said, we had a few options that we were bouncing around together and we settled on the perfect spot.

It was great to pick up where we left off with these two. Hitting the trails together felt like heading out for a hike with old friends. We got all caught up and then our attention turned to future travel plans and some of our bucket list travels. The weather was amazing and we made great time up to the lake and sure enough, we were the only people in sight. We set our gear down on the lake shore and let these two start setting up their rafts. With everything ready to go, they took to the water and we captured some amazing moments.

Golden Larch Trees in the backcountry of the Canadian Rockies 

The Larch trees were in full, Fall season display and as the clouds rolled through we were treated to splashes of sun, illuminating the area and creating some drama. As these two were paddling in for the morning, we were joined by our first fellow hiker for the day so we grabbed the gear and made our way to a more secluded area to end with some more intimate photos, taking advantage of the amazing colours and views of the mountains.

This adventure session wrapped up their celebrations with us in style! We love that they planned to do this on a separate day to their wedding. This allowed them the time and space to immerse themselves in their wedding day without feeling the pressure of leaving their families and friends for a portion of the day. We love when couples allow time before or after their wedding day to something different that they may not have time for on their special day. It takes the pressure off in many ways! Many of our couples choose to do this with an engagement session and this can be done at any time of year too so if you want some pictures in different seasons, this is the way to go.
