Moraine Lake Wedding Photos and a Sunset Session in Banff
Sunrise wedding photos at Moraine Lake and sunset in Banff
When E & J contacted us, they had some amazing ideas for their upcoming wedding photos in Banff National Park. With a short trip window and a thirst for adventure they wanted to make the most of their time outdoors! Traveling from Dallas, we were sure to let them know how chilly it can get in the mountains, particularly in the early hours so there were no surprises!

E & J had their hearts set on sunrise at Moraine Lake with those iconic views and beautiful turquoise waters. Having spent some time talking about the experience and wake up times required, the plan was set and we met these two super early to make sure we got a parking space. With E & J keeping warm in the car, we kept an eye on the changing light, making sure to leave enough time to enjoy the walk up the rockpile. Despite some of the hurdles with sunrise sessions at Moraine Lake, it’s always amazing to watch couples set their eyes on the views for themselves for the first time. We knew exactly where E & J wanted to be to watch the light turn so we got set up and ready to enjoy the show. Having made sure we captured their dream photo, we spent some time showing them around some more of the area so they could soak up the experience. Here’s some of the highlights.
Sunset wedding photos in Banff National Park
With a beautiful sunrise experience behind us, we let these two enjoy their time together through the day and made plans to meet up at Two Jack Lake, just outside of Banff. We had more of a free flowing evening with these two, chasing the light wherever it looked best and making sure to show them the beautiful lakes that are close to Banff itself. We had such an incredible variety of conditions through the evening, with some electric fall colors on the aspens, some beautiful golden light through the meadows and a dramatic sunset over Lake Minnewanka, all within the space of an hour and a half. It really was amazing and an incredible way for these two adventurers to see Banff National Park and its beauty in such a short trip.
We’re thankful for the trust these two placed in us for helping bring their trip together so they could “see it all” on a time pinch. We’re no strangers to spending both sunrise and sunset with our couples. To see how things could be done differently, check out a sunrise in Banff followed by an adventure hiking session for sunset in Kananaskis. That’s the awesome thing about creating your own experience, you can be as adventurous as you like. Feel free to reach out if you want to run some ideas by us as we’ll be sure to let you know if what you’re dreaming up is possible!
