Kananaskis Sunrise Hiking Engagement Session
Summit Views at Sunrise with Canmore Wedding Photographers
With an early 3:30am wake up, we took the short drive from home to meet M & S at the trailhead car park. With everything packed up we set off for a slow and steady hike up the mountain to watch the sunrise. We love hiking by headlamp, sharing stories and this was no exception with these two as we ascended under the stars. As Aussie-Brit couples finding our homes in Canada, we had a lot to catch up on and before we knew it we were well ahead of time and taking a quick break to shelter from the chilly wind gusts, just below our end high point on the trail. We took the opportunity for a Bailey’s hot chocolate break and to watch in amazement at the stream of headlamps following each other up Ha Ling Peak just across the valley. It was such a contrast to the peace and quiet we had without another soul on the trail with us.

We made our way to our viewpoint for the morning and the ambient light was starting to reveal the incredible views. We kept the warm jackets close by and started getting ready for the sun to rise. Keeping an eye on a few drifting clouds, we started warming up with the cameras and exploring some well known viewpoints on the trail. We love early mornings in the mountains and this was no exception.

As the sun broke the horizon, the light started to interact with the cold, sheer rock faces that make up the mountains of the Goat Range and of course, the iconic Ha Ling Peak. We had a blast, in our comfort zone up on the rocky slopes and hopped around whilst M & S soaked up the views. What we really love about this particular viewpoint is the photographic variety that is possible without having to move our couples around too much. After all, these sessions are much more than just one great photo!
With the sun rising higher in the sky and the morning warming up, it was time for a final sip of hot chocolate before starting the peaceful hike down. This turned out to be a beautiful sunrise hike during our short Summer season.
