5 Reasons to Get Married in Spring in the Canadian Rockies
Traditionally Spring is a season for change and new beginnings, and it makes no exception in the Rockies. It can be one of our most varied seasons and for many reasons it usually all depends when Winter decides to loosen its grip. Spring can often be a popular time of year to exchange vows to coincide with Nature’s “new beginnings” of the year. Why not sweep that tradition aside and look a little closer at why Spring is a great time of year to elope in the eyes of your local Banff and Canmore elopement photographers.
Here’s a quick look at our top 5 reasons to elope in Spring.
Milkway Season
Thawing Lakes and Icebergs
Quieter Hotspots
Spring Powder Days
Flowing Waterways
1. Milkway Season
This might be something new for you, but for the star gazers out there, this one should hit home. We love spending time under the night sky and it’s this time of year that gives us a window to see the Milky Way at it’s best. Whilst it isn’t the only time of year to view it, it’s the best time to view the galactic core as it rises above our horizons. If you are looking for something truly unique, let us bring the night skies into your celebration.
2. Thawing Lakes and Icebergs
As we leave the grip that Winter has over the mountains, the snow starts to melt and as things warm up, a wonderful thing happens to the alpine lakes. The ice starts to thaw and break up into what we can only describe as icebergs. This doesn’t happen all the time on every lake but if you know where to look it can provide some stunningly unique backdrops.
3. Quieter Tourist Hotspots
Spring, like Autumn, is what we’d refer to as shoulder season. It’s that time of year when the mountain towns tend to experience a slight dip in tourist traffic. In more recent years, this window is narrowing as people are starting to learn that any time of year is a good time of year to be in the mountains. Typically, during our peak months, some of our iconic locations will leave some couples feeling like they’re a little on display. In contrast, if you take the time to visit during shoulder season, you’ll often find that the Summer crowds have subsided and you’ll luck out with quieter locations. Local knowledge can do you the world of good here too, being able to show you options you didn’t even know existed.
4. Spring Powder Days
There’s a tendency for the weather in the Spring to be fairly turbulent and it can be common to get some late season powder days for the skiers and snowboarders out there. Pair this with warmer temps and you have yourself a pretty pleasant time of season to elope on the slopes. Sliding around on snow with cameras is second nature to us so if you want your pics on the move around the mountain, we’re the team for you.
5. Flowing Waterways
As the days warm up and snow starts to melt the waterways come alive. A lot of the creek beds that lay dry and bare through the winter now start to fill and give the landscape a facelift. The waterfalls that were solid towers of ice, now start to release and show off their beauty. Whilst you can still enjoy a lot of these features during the height of Summer, there’s a whole host of areas that will dry up as Summer goes on and the window will be missed.
So that concludes our top 5 reasons to elope in Spring. If you’re looking for more inspiration and ideas for this time of year, get in touch with us and let’s start planning your dream celebration. If you’re not a fan of this time of year, feel free to check out Winter, Fall & Summer.
