5 Reasons to Elope and Get Married in Summer in the Canadian Rockies

Summer is the most elusive of all of our seasons here in the Canadian Rockies. It’s a colourful, vibrant and short-lived time to enjoy the mountains. Without exaggeration Summer is our only season when swimming in glacier fed lakes in 32 degrees Celsius one day and being battered by sideways snow the next is entirely possible.

Despite being some of our busiest months of the year with visitors, it’s also the time to go and explore further afield as the mountains become that much more accessible. For most, Summer is the go-to favourite time to elope, get engaged or get married, but for those still struggling to picture what their day would look like, here’s our top 5 reasons to elope in summer.

  • Summits & Hiking

If you’ve got your heart set on mountain top photos and you love hiking then look no further. Summer is the only time of year that offers a window to access the most trails on foot. The snow pack can linger from Winter into August on record years so make sure your photographer's local knowledge is strong. After all, it would be devastating to have to turn back after an early start for a sunrise session because of unknown trail conditions.

If hiking isn’t your thing but you really want summit views for your special day then get in touch and we can show you some heli-accessed options so you can still get up high for your dream photos.

  • Long Warm Days

One of the best things about summer is that the days are so long it feels like you’re getting a 3-for-1 deal on daylight hours. Long, warm days gives you a blank canvas to create your perfect day without having to compromise on your activities. There’s no reason why you can’t go at a leisurely pace and enjoy a morning walk by the river, a delicious breakfast, a boat tour on the lake followed by an afternoon ceremony before gearing up for an epic sunset hike to close your first day as a married couple...all with time to spare, and we’re not even joking.

  • Camping & Multi-Day Treks

One of the more popular Summer activities in the Canadian Rockies is camping. With a huge range of facilities to suit all needs and tastes, it's a fun, unique way to enjoy summer in the mountains. With everything from drive-up lodges to remote backcountry tent sites we know there’s a dream destination for you.

For those who want a more secluded and adventurous celebration, get in touch for our recommendations on some of the best multi-day camping trips out there.

  • Turquoise waters

I bet everyone has seen those postcard pictures of alpine lakes and wondered, but are they really that colour? The good news is, yes! Of course, bright sunshine really helps them pop but you don’t have to look far to find an incredibly vibrant waterway in the Canadian Rockies. We generally find the best way to enjoy our alpine lakes is either right on the lake shore (you could even go for a dip if it’s hot), or from up high so you can really see the contrast in the landscape.

  • Wild flowers in bloom

There’s a special place in our hearts for wildflowers. It’s pretty crazy when you see what’s normally a relatively grey-scale landscape burst into a full spectrum of colour. Wildflowers come in all colours, shapes and sizes and the fun part is knowing the best places to view them. If you’re going to colour coordinate your outfits to the local flora and fauna then get some local knowledge on hand to help.

That sums up some of our favourite reasons to elope and get married in Summer. There are of course a multitude of a activities to do and places to see in Summer so if you’ve any questions about what your day could look like, get in touch.
