Summer Heli Elopement at the Chateau Fairmont Lake Louise
On a bright June morning in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, we arrived at the Château Fairmont Lake Louise for one of the most unforgettable elopement days we’ve had the privilege to photograph. These two travelled from Florida to celebrate together in the mountains of Banff National Park. They brought the good weather with them in what had been a turbulent week and it really set the scene for a calm morning.
Bride and Groom Get Ready in the Glacier Suite at Lake Louise
The morning began in the Glacier Suite at the Château, with the windows framing the famous turquoise waters and snow-tipped peaks beyond. With hair and make-up underway, there was a pretty relaxed vibe to getting ready as the dress was laid out, the flowers arrived and our groom was putting the final touches to his attire. They allowed time to share some peace and quiet on the balcony to write their vows together and then got dressed and ready to head out into the hotel for some photos before getting out on the highway to explore the mountains for the day.
Heli Elopement Ceremony in a Summer Snowfall
From the Château, we enjoyed the scenic drive north to our chosen helibase. With the practical bits and pieces done (waivers and safety brief), it wasn’t long before we were in the heli with the familiar sound of the rotors overhead. At this time of year the scenery is spectacular with melting valleys and snow capped peaks as we fly toward our chosen landing location.
We touched down and gave these two a moment to acclimate to the chilly temperatures and explore the area on foot. We found the perfect perch for these two to exchange vows and make things official. As we witnessed their exchange, a snow squall blew through and added a wintry feel to this Summer’s day.
With an emotional ceremony behind them, it was all smiles and excitement to soak up the scenery and make some more memories together in the mountains.
Intimate wedding photos at Peyto Lake
After the summit ceremony, we descended, and the next stop was the iconic viewpoint over Peyto Lake. This glacier-fed lake, with its vivid color and dramatic mountain backdrop, is a showstopper in any season for obvious reasons! Peyto Lake is getting more popular as it offers quite a stark contrast to other locations, with the elevated views and the fact it is so easily accessible by car too.
Exploring Bow Lake for their Canadian Rockies Elopement
As the afternoon waned, we made our way further along the Icefields Parkway to Bow Lake. It’s a shorter journey, but that afternoon, one that revealed a dramatic shift with a moodier, reflective backdrop. Here, we paused for a slower experience and a toast to the newlyweds starting out on their greatest adventure in life together…cheers!
