Moody Summer Engagement Session at Peyto Lake

From rain to shine for this epic engagement session in the Canadian Rockies

Where do we even start with this incredible engagement session? V & E made the trip to Banff and had planned out their time around the session. With hair and make up booked, it was a case of watching the weather and trying to stick to plan A as much as possible. They had their hearts set on Peyto Lake and whilst the weather was trying to be as unpredictable as possible, we had our sights on a small break in the evening and went for it. We all drove from Canmore in the heavy rain, through the sunshine in Banff, back into the rain and stopped to meet for a convoy at Lake Louise in the brilliant, warm sunshine. With a final call to go for it, we took the road north and to start with,  it was like following the wrong turn in a disney movie. Clear skies and sun gave way to ominous looking skies, storm clouds, monsoon rains and lighting. Despite not looking good, it was all in the forecast so on we went and arrived at Peyto Lake as the rains were slowing. V & E had the best outlook on the situation and were reluctant to turn away just in case things did clear up so we hiked up to the viewpoint and readied ourselves.

We started the session in the rain, armed with clear umbrellas and taking advantage of the moody conditions. As time drifted by, the ambient light lifted and sun broke through the clouds to allow for an incredible session at Peyto Lake. With an outfit change at the ready, these two collected a gallery full of variety and looked like movie stars in the making.

The weather in the mountains can be a rollercoaster journey and so when you hear “be prepared for anything” it really is the case! Peyto Lake is simply spectacular for a more elevated viewpoint without much physical effort and it looks good in any season. If summer isn’t your thing, check it out all covered in snow in winter and spring, as well as fall, just before the cold sets in!
